Jim Fassel (born August 31, 1949) was an American football player and coach known for his contributions to the National Football League (NFL) as head coach of the New York Giants. Fassel played college football as a quarterback at the University of Utah before moving on to a brief playing career in the NFL, where he was primarily with the Chicago Bears and the Iowa Falcons of the Continental Football League. He transitioned to coaching in the mid-1980s, eventually becoming an offensive coordinator in the NFL.
Fassel’s most notable achievement came during his tenure as head coach of the New York Giants from 1997 to 2003. Under his leadership, the team reached the pinnacle of the NFL by advancing to Super Bowl XXXV in 2001, though they ultimately lost to the Baltimore Ravens.
