Biography
Jim Langer was a prominent American football center, born on May 16, 1948, in Mantua, Ohio. He attended Kent State University, where he played college football and earned recognition for his skill and leadership on the field. Langer entered the National Football League (NFL) undrafted and began his professional career with the Miami Dolphins in 1970.
Langer gained notoriety as a key player for the Dolphins during their historic 1972 season, when the team achieved a perfect record of 17-0, culminating in a Super Bowl victory. He was selected to the Pro Bowl in 1973, 1974, and 1976, and was named an All-Pro in 1972 and 1974, solidifying his reputation as one of the league's top centers. His exceptional performance contributed to the Dolphins' success in the early 1970s, establishing him as an integral part of one of the NFL's greatest teams.
After a successful tenure with the Dolphins, Langer concluded his career with the Minnesota Vikings, retiring in 1979. He left a lasting legacy as a skilled lineman, known for his intelligence and toughness on the field, and was inducted into the Dolphins' Ring of Honor in 2006. Langer's contributions to the game continue to be celebrated, particularly as part of the 1972 Dolphins, the only team in NFL history to complete a perfect season.
