Biography
Jim Schwartz, born on June 2, 1966, in Milford, Connecticut, is a former professional American football coach and player, best known for his tenure as a defensive coordinator in the National Football League (NFL). Schwartz played college football at Georgetown University, where he was a standout player and earned a degree in political science. He transitioned to coaching shortly after his playing career, beginning with stints in the college ranks before making the leap to the NFL.
Schwartz's NFL coaching career began in 1999 with the Baltimore Ravens, where he served as a defensive assistant. He gained prominence as the defensive coordinator for the Tennessee Titans from 2001 to 2008, during which time the team's defense consistently ranked among the league's best. In 2009, he took on the role of head coach for the Detroit Lions, leading the team to its first playoff appearance in over a decade in 2011 and receiving accolades for his ability to develop young talent.
After his time in Detroit, Schwartz returned to a defensive coordinator position, notably with the Philadelphia Eagles from 2016 to 2020. Under his guidance, the Eagles' defense played a crucial role in their Super Bowl LII victory in 2018.
