Biography
Jim Tyrer was born on February 25, 1939, in Olathe, Kansas. He attended the University of Kansas, where he excelled as an offensive tackle on the college football team. After being selected in the 1961 NFL Draft, Tyrer began his professional career with the Dallas Texans, which later became the Kansas City Chiefs.
Throughout his career, Tyrer established himself as one of the premier offensive linemen in the league. He was a six-time Pro Bowl selection and earned two First-team All-Pro honors, contributing significantly to the Chiefs' success during the late 1960s and early 1970s. His notable performance helped lead the team to Super Bowl IV, where they secured a championship in 1970.
Jim Tyrer played a total of 12 seasons in the NFL, finishing his career with the Chiefs in 1973. His legacy endures as a key figure in the franchise's history, recognized for his durability and proficiency on the offensive line. Tyrer was posthumously inducted into the Chiefs' Hall of Fame, solidifying his impact on the team's heritage and the sport of football.
