Jimmy Johnson, born on July 16, 1943, in Port Arthur, Texas, is a former American football player and coach who is renowned for his contributions to the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at the University of Arkansas, where he was a standout defensive end. Johnson transitioned into coaching after his playing career, gaining prominence as the head coach at the University of Miami, where he led the team to a national championship in 1987.
In 1989, Johnson was hired as the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, a position that would solidify his legacy in the NFL. Under his leadership, the Cowboys achieved significant success, winning back-to-back Super Bowl championships in 1992 and 1993. Johnson was known for his innovative approach to the game and his emphasis on building a talented roster through the draft, particularly by executing a landmark trade of running back Herschel Walker that brought multiple valuable draft picks to the franchise.
