Biography
Joe Kapp, born on March 19, 1938, in Santa Fe, New Mexico, is a former professional American football quarterback known for his exceptional career in the National Football League (NFL). A standout athlete at the University of California, Berkeley, Kapp gained national attention for leading the Golden Bears to a notable victory over the University ofWashington in 1959. He was selected in the 18th round of the 1960 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers, where he began his professional career.
Kapp's most prominent achievements came during his tenure with the Minnesota Vikings from 1967 to 1970. He led the team to its first-ever Super Bowl appearance in Super Bowl IV, becoming the first quarterback in NFL history to start in a championship game after having previously played for a different team. Known for his toughness and leadership on the field, Kapp was recognized for his dual-threat capabilities, combining effective passing with a powerful running game, which contributed to his reputation as a fierce competitor.
