Biography
Joe Malone was a Canadian ice hockey player, born on February 28, 1890, in Pembroke, Ontario. Renowned for his scoring ability, Malone played as a forward and was one of the early stars of professional hockey. His career in the National Hockey Association (NHA) and later the National Hockey League (NHL) significantly contributed to the popularity of the sport in North America.
Malone began his professional career with the MontreaI Canadiens in 1910, leading the league with a remarkable 39 goals in just 20 games during the 1917-18 season. He went on to play for the Quebec Bulldogs, where he continued to excel, eventually becoming the first player in NHL history to score 40 goals in a single season during the 1920-21 campaign. His contributions included winning the Stanley Cup with the Bulldogs in 1912 and setting multiple scoring records that stood for decades.
After retiring from playing in 1924, Malone remained a celebrated figure in ice hockey, being inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1950.
