John David Crow was born on July 8, 1935, in Lufkin, Texas. He played college football at Texas A&M University, where he garnered national attention as a versatile athlete. Crow's impressive performance led to his selection as the second overall pick in the 1958 NFL Draft by the Chicago Cardinals.
During his professional career, Crow played primarily as a running back and wide receiver, spanning from 1958 to 1968.
