John Tonelli, born on March 23, 1957, in Simcoe, Ontario, Canada, is a former professional ice hockey player known for his impactful career in the National Hockey League (NHL). Drafted 81st overall by the New York Islanders in the 1978 NHL Amateur Draft, Tonelli played a significant role in the franchise's success during the early 1980s. He was a key contributor to the Islanders' four consecutive Stanley Cup championships from 1980 to 1983.
Tonelli's playing style combined speed and versatility, allowing him to excel in various offensive roles throughout his career. Over 15 seasons in the NHL, he amassed 349 goals and 756 points, playing for teams including the New York Islanders, Los Angeles Kings, Calgary Flames, and the New York Rangers.
