Biography
Johnny Lattner was born on October 24, 1932, in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. He gained prominence as a running back at the University of Notre Dame, where he played from 1951 to 1953. Lattner won the prestigious Heisman Trophy in 1953, becoming the first player from Notre Dame to earn this honor, and was also named an All-American during his college career.
Following his successful collegiate tenure, Lattner was selected in the first round of the 1954 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers. He played in the NFL for several seasons, including stints with the Detroit Lions and the Chicago Bears, establishing himself as a versatile player known for his speed and agility.
