Johnny Majors was born on May 21, 1935, in Lafayette, Tennessee. He gained prominence as a standout athlete at the University of Tennessee, where he played as a halfback from 1954 to 1956 and earned All-American honors. After a successful collegiate career, he was selected in the first round of the 1957 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Majors played for the Steelers from 1957 to 1958 before transitioning to the Canadian Football League, where he continued to showcase his skills with the Montreal Alouettes. After his playing career, he became a notable college football coach, leading programs at the University of Iowa, University of Pittsburgh, and the University of Tennessee, where he secured multiple conference championships and a national title in 1976.
