Johnny Unitas, born on May 7, 1933, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, was an American football quarterback who played primarily for the Baltimore Colts in the National Football League (NFL). He gained recognition for his strong arm, tactical acumen, and leadership qualities, which helped him revolutionize the quarterback position. Unitas began his professional career in 1956 and quickly became known for his ability to perform in high-pressure situations.
Throughout his career, Unitas achieved numerous accolades, including three NFL Most Valuable Player (MVP) awards and NFL championships in 1958, 1959, and 1968. His 1958 championship game is often referred to as "The Greatest Game Ever Played," where he led the Colts to a dramatic victory over the New York Giants in the first NFL playoff game to go into sudden-death overtime.
