Joni Pitkänen, born on September 19, 1983, in Jyväskylä, Finland, is a retired professional ice hockey defenseman known for his lengthy career in both the NHL and Finnish leagues. Selected fourth overall in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft by the Philadelphia Flyers, Pitkänen established himself as a talented and dependable blueliner. His strong skating ability and offensive contributions made him a key player for several franchises, including the Flyers, Edmonton Oilers, and Carolina Hurricanes.
