José Torres, born on May 3, 1936, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, was an accomplished American boxer who became a prominent figure in the sport during the 1960s. He was known for his quick footwork and powerful punches, which earned him a reputation as one of the most skilled light heavyweight boxers of his time. Torres began his professional boxing career in 1958 and quickly rose through the ranks, showcasing his talents in the ring.
In 1966, José Torres achieved the pinnacle of his boxing career by winning the World Light Heavyweight Championship, defeating the reigning champion, Willie Pastrano. Torres successfully defended his title three times before losing it in 1969 to the legendary boxing promoter and fighter, Bob Foster. Over the course of his professional career, he compiled an impressive record of 41 wins, 3 losses, and 1 draw, further solidifying his status as a leading figure in boxing.
