Judge commenced his professional playing career with the East Fremantle Football Club in the West Australian National Football League (WANFL) before making his way to the VFL, where he played for the Hawthorn Football Club from 1977 to 1985. During his time at Hawthorn, Judge was part of a successful team that secured two premierships in 1978 and 1983.
