Biography
Korey Stringer was an American football offensive tackle, born on May 8, 1974, in Warren, Ohio. He played college football at The Ohio State University, where he garnered attention for his exceptional athleticism and strength. Stringer was selected by the Minnesota Vikings in the first round of the 1995 NFL Draft, becoming the 24th overall pick.
During his career with the Vikings, Stringer became a key component of the team's offensive line, known for his powerful blocking and durability on the field. He played a pivotal role in the Vikings' successful seasons, including the 1998 team that reached the NFC Championship Game. Stringer earned a reputation as a reliable player, starting in 103 games over his six seasons with the team.
Tragically, Korey Stringer's career was cut short when he passed away on August 1, 2001, due to heatstroke during training camp. His legacy endures through the ongoing conversations regarding player safety and heat-related illnesses in the NFL, leading to improved guidelines and protocols aimed at protecting athletes. In honor of Stringer, the NFL established the Korey Stringer Institute, which focuses on the prevention of heat-related deaths in athletes.
