Kumar Dharmasena, born on April 24, 1971, in Colombo, Sri Lanka, is a former cricketer who played as an all-rounder and was a key figure in Sri Lankan cricket during the 1990s. He made his One Day International (ODI) debut in 1993 and earned a reputation for his aggressive batting style and effective off-spin bowling. Dharmasena was part of the Sri Lankan team that achieved immense success, including winning the 1996 Cricket World Cup.
Throughout his international career, which spanned from 1993 to 2005, Dharmasena played in 141 ODIs and 31 Test matches, contributing significantly with both bat and ball. His notable performances include taking 91 ODI wickets and scoring 1,837 runs, alongside a Test bowling record of 75 wickets and 1,217 runs. Dharmasena was recognized for his ability to perform under pressure, particularly during critical matches in international tournaments.
After retiring as a player, Dharmasena transitioned into umpiring, where he continued to contribute to the sport. He became an International Cricket Council (ICC) Elite Panel Umpire and officiated in numerous high-profile matches, including the ICC World Cup finals.
