Biography
Lance Alworth, born on August 3, 1940, in Enid, Oklahoma, is a former American football wide receiver who gained prominence in the National Football League (NFL) during the 1960s and early 1970s. He played college football at the University of Arkansas, where he was a standout athlete before being selected as the first overall pick in the 1962 NFL Draft by the San Diego Chargers. Alworth quickly made a name for himself as a premier pass-catcher, known for his speed, precise route-running, and exceptional hands.
During his career, Alworth was recognized as one of the league's top players, earning eight Pro Bowl selections and three First-Team All-Pro honors. He was instrumental in leading the Chargers to an AFL Championship in 1963, and he is a member of the American Football League All-Time Team. In 1971, Alworth joined the Dallas Cowboys, where he continued to excel and helped the team secure an NFC Championship in 1975.
