Lawrence Tynes, born on March 3, 1978, in Greenock, Scotland, is a former professional American football placekicker who had a notable career in the National Football League (NFL). Tynes attended the University of Richmond, where he played college football before being signed as an undrafted free agent in 2001. He initially joined the NFL with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but it was with the New York Giants that he found significant success.
Tynes is best known for his contributions to the Giants during their Super Bowl XLII and XLVI championship runs. In Super Bowl XLII, he kicked the decisive field goal that secured a victory over the New England Patriots, ending their quest for an undefeated season.
