Lear Wood, born on November 12, 1885, was an English cricketer known for his exceptional skills as a right-handed batsman and a right-arm fast bowler. He made his first-class debut for Nottinghamshire in 1905, quickly establishing himself as a key player within the team. Over his career, Wood played in a total of 212 first-class matches, amassing over 7,000 runs and claiming more than 550 wickets.

Wood's cricketing prowess was further highlighted during the County Championship, where he consistently ranked among the top performers throughout the 1910s. His highest batting score of 219 not out, achieved against Glamorgan in 1912, stands as a testament to his batting talents. Additionally, Wood was a part of the Nottinghamshire team that secured the County Championship title multiple times during his tenure.

After retiring from professional cricket in the late 1920s, Lear Wood left a lasting legacy in the sport, remembered for both his individual achievements and contributions to his county team.
