Lionel Rose was born on June 21, 1948, in Warragul, Victoria, Australia. He gained national prominence as a professional boxer, becoming the first Aboriginal Australian to win a world boxing title. Rose's boxing career spanned from 1964 to 1976, during which he fought in the bantamweight and featherweight divisions.
Rose is best known for his victory on July 8, 1968, when he won the WBA bantamweight title by defeating the reigning champion, Fighting Harada, in Tokyo, Japan.
