Biography
Lorne Chabot was a Canadian ice hockey goaltender, born on May 7, 1900, in Sudbury, Ontario. He made his professional debut in the National Hockey League (NHL) in 1926 and played a significant role in the early years of the league. Over his career, Chabot was known for his agility and competitiveness, earning a reputation as one of the leading goaltenders of his time.
Chabot played for several teams throughout his NHL career, most notably the New York Rangers and the Detroit Red Wings. He was part of the Rangers team that made the playoffs multiple times in the late 1920s, contributing to their strong defensive performances. In 1934, he achieved a career highlight by helping the Chicago Black Hawks reach the Stanley Cup finals, although they fell to the Montreal Maroons.
After retiring from professional play in 1938, Chabot left a lasting impact on the sport as a pioneering goaltender in the NHL. His contributions and performances in the early years of the league helped shape the role of the goaltender in ice hockey.
