Biography
Marco Streit, born on December 7, 1975, in Bern, Switzerland, is a retired professional ice hockey athlete known for his contributions as a defenseman. He began his professional career in the late 1990s, playing for the SC Bern in the Swiss National League, where he quickly established himself as a talented player with both offensive and defensive skills. Streit’s performance in Switzerland helped pave the way for his entry into the National Hockey League (NHL).
In 2004, Streit made his NHL debut with the Montreal Canadiens, becoming the first Swiss-born player to make a significant impact in the league during the early 2000s. He later played for several teams, notably the New York Islanders, where he served as team captain and was recognized for his scoring ability, including a career-high of 62 points in the 2007-2008 season. Over the course of his NHL career, Streit was known for his excellent puck-handling and power-play proficiency, earning him All-Star selections and the prestige of being inducted into the IIHF Hall of Fame in 2018.
