Biography
Marion Motley was born on June 5, 1920, in Leesburg, Georgia. He is best known for his career as a fullback in the National Football League (NFL) during the 1940s and early 1950s. After playing college football at South Carolina State University, Motley was signed by the Cleveland Browns in 1946, becoming one of the league's first African American players in the post-World War II era.
During his time with the Browns, Motley established himself as a formidable offensive force, helping the team secure four All-America Football Conference championships and three NFL championships. He led the league in rushing yards in 1950 and was selected for the Pro Bowl in 1950 and 1951. Motivated by his exceptional performances, he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1968, solidifying his status as a pioneer in the sport.
