Biography
Mark Napier, born on January 28, 1957, in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada, is a retired professional ice hockey player who gained recognition for his scoring ability and playmaking skills. Napier played junior hockey with the Sudbury Wolves in the Ontario Hockey Association (OHA) before he was selected in the first round, 14th overall, by the Montreal Canadiens in the 1977 NHL Amateur Draft.
Throughout his NHL career, which spanned from 1977 to 1985, Napier played for several teams, including the Montreal Canadiens, where he won two Stanley Cups in 1978 and 1979. He later played for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Minnesota North Stars, and New Jersey Devils, accumulating a total of 153 goals and 230 assists in regular-season play while becoming known for his offensive prowess and versatility on the ice.
After retiring from professional hockey, Napier continued to contribute to the sport by coaching youth hockey and supporting various community initiatives. His legacy remains notable for his contributions to one of hockey's most storied franchises, the Montreal Canadiens, and for being part of a championship team during one of the franchise's most successful periods.
