Biography
Mark Richt, born on February 18, 1960, in Omaha, Nebraska, is a former American football player and coach, best known for his significant contributions to collegiate football as a head coach. He played as a quarterback at the University of Miami from 1978 to 1982, where he was part of a transformative period for the Hurricanes program. After his playing career, he transitioned into coaching, which ultimately defined his professional legacy.
Richt began his coaching career as an assistant at Florida State University, where he helped lead the Seminoles to a national championship in 1993. He became the head coach at the University of Georgia in 2001, where he enjoyed substantial success, including two Southeastern Conference (SEC) championships and a BCS bowl victory. Under his leadership, the Bulldogs consistently ranked among the top teams in college football, earning multiple SEC Coach of the Year awards and establishing him as one of the premier coaches in the sport.
