Marvan Atapattu, born on November 22, 1970, in Kalubowila, Sri Lanka, is a former international cricketer known for his accomplished career as an opening batsman. Making his debut for the Sri Lankan national team in 1990, Atapattu played a pivotal role in the team during the late 1990s and early 2000s. He is particularly remembered for his contributions during Sri Lanka's victorious campaign in the 1996 Cricket World Cup.

Atapattu's Test career spanned from 1990 to 2007, during which he scored over 5,000 runs, including 16 centuries. He was renowned for his solid technique and ability to play long innings, highlighted by his highest score of 249 against Zimbabwe in 2003. An effective player in One Day Internationals (ODIs) as well, Atapattu amassed more than 8,000 runs, finishing his ODI career with a total of 8529 runs at an average of 39.02.

After retiring from international cricket, Atapattu transitioned into coaching, contributing to young cricketers in Sri Lanka and serving as a batting coach for various teams.
