Matt Gilroy, born on July 30, 1984, in Glen Falls, New York, is a former professional ice hockey defenseman. He played college hockey at Boston University, where he garnered attention for his exceptional play and leadership skills, leading the Terriers to an NCAA championship in 2009. Gilroy's performance earned him the Hobey Baker Award that same year, recognizing him as the top player in collegiate hockey.
Following his collegiate success, Gilroy signed with the New York Rangers as an undrafted free agent in 2009. Over his NHL career, which spanned from 2009 to 2016, he played for several teams, including the Rangers, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Florida Panthers.
