Merton Hanks, born on March 12, 1968, in Dallas, Texas, is a former professional American football player known for his role as a safety in the National Football League (NFL). After a successful collegiate career at the University of Iowa, Hanks was selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the fourth round of the 1991 NFL Draft.
