Biography
Michael Sam is a former American football defensive end, born on January 7, 1990, in Galena, Illinois. He played college football at the University of Missouri, where he achieved significant recognition in the 2013 season, leading the Southeastern Conference (SEC) in sacks and tackles for loss. Sam's outstanding performance helped the Missouri Tigers secure a top-10 ranking and he was named the SEC Defensive Player of the Year.
In the 2014 NFL Draft, Michael Sam made history by becoming the first openly gay player to be drafted into the National Football League when he was selected by the St. Louis Rams in the seventh round. He made the final roster and received national attention not only for his athletic abilities but also for his role in advancing LGBTQ representation in professional sports.
