Biography
Mike O'Connell (born November 25, 1955) is a former professional ice hockey player from the United States who enjoyed a notable career primarily as a defenseman. O'Connell was drafted in the first round, 18th overall, by the Detroit Red Wings in the 1973 NHL Draft. He made his NHL debut in the 1977-78 season and played a total of 12 seasons in the league, also representing teams such as the St. Louis Blues and the Boston Bruins.
Throughout his career, O'Connell was recognized for his strong defensive play, earning a reputation as a reliable stay-at-home defenseman. He played in over 700 regular-season games and participated in multiple playoff appearances, contributing to his teams' success with his leadership and skill on the ice. O'Connell was a member of the Bruins squad that captured the Adams Division title in the 1986-87 season.
