Biography
Mike Ramsey, born on December 3, 1960, in Burnsville, Minnesota, is a former professional ice hockey defenseman known for his formidable presence on the ice. He developed his skills in the United States National Team Development Program before playing collegiate hockey at Boston University, where he was recognized for his exceptional defensive abilities. Following his collegiate success, Ramsey was selected as the 7th overall pick by the Buffalo Sabres in the 1979 NHL Entry Draft.
During his career, Ramsey played over 1,000 games in the National Hockey League (NHL) primarily with the Buffalo Sabres, where he became a key figure in the team's defense during the 1980s and early 1990s. He also had brief stints with the Los Angeles Kings and the Detroit Red Wings, accumulating numerous playoff appearances and contributing to his teams’ deep postseason runs. Notably, Ramsey was part of the United States national team that achieved a historic victory in the 1980 Winter Olympics, famously known as the "Miracle on Ice."
After retiring from professional play, Ramsey transitioned into coaching, honing his skills at both the collegiate and professional levels. He left a lasting legacy as a respected player and coach, remembered for his leadership, sportsmanship, and contribution to ice hockey in the United States.
