Mike Zimmer, born on June 5, 1956, is a former American football player and coach, best known for his role as a defensive coordinator in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Illinois State University, where he excelled as a safety before transitioning into coaching. His NFL playing career included a brief tenure with the New Orleans Saints in the late 1970s, after which he shifted his focus towards coaching.
