Nancy Lieberman, born on July 1, 1958, in New York City, is a former professional basketball player and coach, recognized as one of the pioneers in women's basketball. A standout player during her collegiate career at Old Dominion University, she led the Lady Monarchs to two AIAW National Championships and was named a two-time All-American. Lieberman gained prominence as a member of the U.S. national team, winning a silver medal at the 1976 Montreal Olympics, where women's basketball was included as a demonstration sport.

Lieberman played in the Women's Basketball Association and the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA), with her professional career spanning nearly two decades. In the WNBA's inaugural season in 1997, she averaged 2.6 points, 1.3 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game, showcasing her skills as a versatile guard. Although her playing time diminished in later years, including an appearance in 2008, her influence remained significant in the development of women's professional basketball.

Beyond her playing career, Nancy Lieberman has made substantial contributions as a coach and mentor in the sport, breaking barriers for women in coaching roles. She became the first woman to be a head coach in a men’s professional league, serving as a head coach for the Texas Legends in the NBA's developmental league.
