Nari Contractor, born on March 7, 1934, in Bombay, India, was a prominent Indian cricketer who played as a left-handed opening batsman. He made his first-class debut for Bombay in 1952 and quickly established himself as a reliable player, known for his elegant batting style. His international career spanned from 1955 to 1968, during which he represented India in 31 Test matches, scoring 1,600 runs with an average of 31.47.
Contractor was best known for his strong performances in the early years of Indian cricket, being part of the national squad that toured Australia in 1958-59. He notably scored a remarkable 122 against the West Indies in 1958, which marked him as one of the finest batsmen of his time. His career was, however, interrupted when he suffered a severe head injury during a domestic match in 1962, which significantly impacted his playing days.
