Nathaniel Clifton, born on October 13, 1922, in Brooklyn, New York, was a professional basketball player who gained recognition as one of the first African Americans to play in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Standing at 6 feet 8 inches, he played primarily as a forward and center, and his athleticism and skills contributed to his successful career in both the NBA and the American Basketball League (ABL). Clifton attended New York University but gained more fame on the court instead of continuing his college education.

Clifton began his professional career with the Harlem Globetrotters before joining the NBA, where he played for the New York Knicks from 1950 to 1957. During his tenure with the Knicks, he was known for his rebounding ability and effective scoring, earning an NBA All-Star selection in 1957.
