Nikolai Valuev, born on August 21, 1973, in Saint Petersburg, Russia, is a retired professional boxer and a former two-time WBA heavyweight champion. Standing at 7 feet tall and weighing approximately 300 pounds during his fighting career, Valuev is renowned for being one of the heaviest and tallest champions in boxing history. He began his professional career in 1993 after a successful amateur stint, during which he amassed numerous accolades including the 1991 World Amateur Boxing Championships bronze medal.
Valuev captured his first WBA title in 2005 by defeating John Ruiz, thus becoming the first Russian to win a heavyweight world championship. He successfully defended his title multiple times, solidifying his presence in the heavyweight division until losing the belt in 2009 to David Haye.
