Orlando "O. J." Mayo, born on November 5, 1987, in Huntington, West Virginia, is a professional basketball player from the United States. He gained widespread attention as a high school basketball star at Huntington High School, where he was ranked as one of the top prospects in the nation and earned numerous accolades, including the prestigious Naismith Prep Player of the Year award in 2006. Following his high school success, Mayo played one season at the University of Southern California (USC) before declaring for the NBA Draft.
Mayo was selected as the third overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves, but was immediately traded to the Memphis Grizzlies, where he began his professional career. Throughout his stint in the NBA, Mayo showcased his scoring ability, averaging a career-high of 18.5 points per game during the 2012-2013 season.
