Oleg Maskaev, born on March 2, 1969, in Chișinău, Moldova, is a retired professional boxer who competed in the heavyweight division. Maskaev moved to the United States in the early 1990s, where he began to establish himself in the boxing world. He gained significant recognition for his powerful punching ability and resilience in the ring.
Throughout his career, Maskaev achieved several notable milestones, including winning the WBC heavyweight title on September 30, 2006, by defeating Hasim Rahman. This victory marked him as one of the few boxers from the former Soviet Union to secure a world championship title in the heavyweight category. He successfully defended the WBC title in his next bout against Peter Okhello, solidifying his position among the elite heavyweights of his era.
