Ollie Matson was born on May 1, 1930, in El Monte, California. He attended the University of San Francisco, where he emerged as a standout player in college football, earning All-American honors in 1951. Matson was selected by the Chicago Cardinals as the third overall pick in the 1952 NFL Draft, marking the beginning of a prolific professional career.
Matson played for several teams during his NFL tenure, including the Chicago Cardinals, Los Angeles Rams, and Detroit Lions. Known for his exceptional speed and agility, he was a versatile athlete who excelled as both a running back and a kick returner.
