Patrick Ewing, born on August 5, 1962, in Kingston, Jamaica, is an American former professional basketball player and coach, renowned for his impact on the game during the 1980s and 1990s. Ewing attended Georgetown University, where he played college basketball under coach John Thompson, helping to lead the Hoyas to an NCAA Championship in 1984. He was selected as the first overall pick in the 1985 NBA Draft by the New York Knicks, marking the beginning of a storied career.
During his time in the NBA, Ewing emerged as one of the league's dominant centers, known for his scoring, rebounding, and shot-blocking abilities. He averaged over 20 points and 8 rebounds per game in several seasons, with notable statistical outputs during the 1985-86 season (20 points, 9 rebounds) and the 1986-87 season (21.5 points, 8.8 rebounds). Ewing's contributions to the Knicks propelled the franchise to multiple playoff appearances, culminating in a trip to the NBA Finals in 1994, where they ultimately fell to the Houston Rockets.
