Biography
Paul Maurice, born on January 30, 1967, in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, is a retired Canadian ice hockey player and a prominent coach in the National Hockey League (NHL). He was drafted 118th overall by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 1985 NHL Entry Draft and played as a defenseman primarily in the minor leagues, appearing in 26 NHL games during his playing career which spanned from 1987 to 1995. His early coaching career began in junior hockey, where he quickly gained recognition for his strategic approach and player development.
Maurice's coaching career took a significant turn when he was appointed the head coach of the Hartford Whalers in 1995, making him one of the youngest coaches in NHL history at that time.
