Paul Westphal, born on November 30, 1950, in Torrance, California, is a retired American professional basketball player and coach. After playing collegiate basketball at the University of Southern California, Westphal was selected by the Boston Celtics in the first round of the 1972 NBA Draft. He is best known for his time with the Phoenix Suns, where he played a pivotal role in the team's success during the 1970s.
Throughout his playing career, Westphal established himself as a skilled guard, earning three NBA All-Star selections. His statistical contributions included a noteworthy scoring average of 9.8 points per game in the 1974-75 season, alongside respectable stats in rebounds and assists. Westphal was instrumental in leading the Suns to the NBA Finals in 1976, solidifying his reputation as a clutch performer on the biggest stage.
