Pavel Kubina, born on April 15, 1977, in Sokolov, Czech Republic, is a retired professional ice hockey defenseman known for his impactful career in the National Hockey League (NHL) and international play. Drafted 179th overall by the New York Islanders in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft, he began his North American career in the American Hockey League (AHL) before making his NHL debut with the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 2000-2001 season.
