Phil Russell, born on July 21, 1952, in Dutton, Ontario, Canada, is a former professional ice hockey defenseman renowned for his solid defensive skills and physical style of play. He played junior hockey with the London Knights in the Ontario Hockey Association before being selected 13th overall in the 1972 NHL Amateur Draft by the Chicago Black Hawks. Russell made his NHL debut in the 1973-74 season and quickly established himself as a reliable presence on the blue line.
Throughout his career, Russell played a total of 11 seasons in the NHL, spending significant time with teams such as the Chicago Black Hawks, the New York Islanders, and the Buffalo Sabres.
