Piercarlo Ghinzani, born on January 16, 1952, in Bergamo, Italy, was a professional racing driver known for his participation in Formula 1. Ghinzani began his motorsport career in the late 1970s, transitioning from competitive karting to single-seater racing. His entry into Formula 1 came with the Osella team in the early 1980s.
In the 1983 season, Ghinzani competed with Osella but did not score any points, finishing the year in a non-scoring position. The following year, 1984, marked his solitary point-scoring performance, where he placed 19th overall in the championship with a total of 2 points. He continued to race for Osella and later Toleman in 1985, but was unable to achieve further significant results, leading to a gradual exit from the sport.
Ghinzani's legacy in Formula 1 is characterized by his determination and contributions to lesser-known teams during a competitive era in the sport. Although he may not be widely remembered as a front-runner, his perseverance and role in the grid during the 1980s reflect the challenges faced by drivers working with smaller outfits in Formula 1 history.
