Biography
Rafael Septien, born on December 12, 1953, in San Luis Potosí, Mexico, is a former professional American football player renowned for his career as a placekicker in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at the University of Arizona, where he demonstrated significant potential, leading to his selection as an undrafted free agent in 1976. Septien’s strong leg and accuracy would eventually earn him a prominent spot in the league.
Septien spent the majority of his NFL career with the Dallas Cowboys from 1977 to 1985, where he became known for his clutch kicking and consistency. During his tenure with the Cowboys, he was part of a team that won the Super Bowl XII and appeared in two additional Super Bowl games. Over his career, he accumulated impressive statistics, including scoring over 1,000 points and converting a significant percentage of his field goal attempts.
After his NFL career, Septien continued to contribute to the sport and became a pioneer for Mexican athletes in American football.
