Biography
Ralph Backstrom, born on September 18, 1937, in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada, was a professional ice hockey player known for his significant contributions to the sport during the 1950s and 1960s. A skilled center, Backstrom began his career in the National Hockey League (NHL) after being selected 30th overall by the Montreal Canadiens in the 1956 NHL Draft. He played an integral role in the Canadiens’ success, winning six Stanley Cups with the team between 1965 and 1973.
Throughout his NHL career, which spanned from 1958 to 1972, Backstrom was recognized for his offensive prowess and playmaking ability. He recorded notable seasons, including a career-high 25 goals in the 1965-66 season, and consistently contributed to his team's scoring efforts. In total, he accumulated 205 goals and 513 points over 757 NHL games, establishing himself as a reliable forward and a respected teammate.
