Biography
Rasmus Rissanen, born on July 13, 1991, in Vantaa, Finland, is a professional ice hockey defenceman known for his strong defensive play and physical presence on the ice. He began his junior career in Finland with HIFK before moving to North America to further pursue his ambitions in the sport. Rissanen was drafted in the sixth round, 178th overall, by the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.
Rissanen made his professional debut in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the Charlotte Checkers during the 2012-2013 season, contributing significantly to the team's defensive lineup. He later transitioned to the NHL, appearing in 12 games for the Carolina Hurricanes between 2013 and 2014. Known for his consistency and work ethic, Rissanen played several seasons with the Checkers, helping the team secure a Calder Cup championship in 2019.
After several successful years in the AHL, Rissanen returned to Europe and signed with HIFK in Liiga, the top professional league in Finland.
