Ray Nettles, born on August 1, 1949, in the United States, is a former professional American football player known for his career as a linebacker in the National Football League (NFL). Nettles played college football at the University of South Carolina, where he showcased his athletic prowess and earned recognition for his defensive skills. After a successful collegiate career, he was selected in the ninth round of the 1971 NFL Draft by the Miami Dolphins.
Nettles played for the Miami Dolphins from 1971 to 1973, contributing significantly to the team's success during one of its most iconic eras. He was part of the Dolphins roster during their perfect season in 1972, where the team went undefeated and ultimately captured Super Bowl VII. His tenure with the Dolphins solidified his reputation as a reliable linebacker and an important part of the team’s defensive lineup.
After leaving the Dolphins, Nettles continued his professional career with the San Diego Chargers from 1974 to 1975 and later played for the New York Jets.
